During the last five decades, there had been a great upsurge in ideas through all the disciplines of the Earth Sciences. Consequently, there had been coinage of new terms, modifications of old terms and assimilation of technical words from all branches of knowledge. The fundamental aspect of the Earth Sciences that distinguishes it from all physical and most of the biological sciences, the dimension of time, is not adequately reflected in most of dictionaries, so much so, that the same term acquires different meanings across the continents. With this in purview, the Samsad Encyclopedic Dictionary of Earth Sciences has been developed, hoping to aid the students and teachers in any discipline of Earth Sciences.
